Business card slitters have long been made up of only of budget-designed, very low volume manual machines or much more expensive professional equipment geared toward mid-larger volume shops. The lower priced machines could realistically be used for very short runs, always run manually and don’t seem to be good at handling cards with ink that bleeds off the edges of the cards. That’s has taken a turn for the better, thanks to the new CardMac Plus business card slitter from Akiles.
This electric powered card slitter has a motor that feeds your sheets through in 2 cut passes. The first cuts your 8.5×11″ sheets down to 2 strips of 5 cards at 3.5″ wide. For the second cut, you place one of those strips in the upper slot and press the feed bar. The result is five finished cards at 3.5×2″ – with a pro looking square cut that even handles bleeds. It has an adjustable guide for aligning your prints on each of the feed trays for perfect cards every time.
The CardMac Plus produces just over 30 cards per minute, while that is still considered lower volume, it will still deliver clean, accurately cut cards with bleeds. When you do the math, you’ll have 250 cards in under 10 minutes – not bad for a smaller shop or office that needs cards produced on the fly for reps on the go.
