Anyone who has ever used plastic coil binding in 22mm or larger sizes knows just how tedious the coil inserting process can be on thicker books. Essentially, your trying to push a curved coil into a stack of pages with holes punched straight down. A common trick among experienced bindery operators is to form the book’s binding edge to more closely match the radius of larger coils. Now, this process is super easy thanks to the new SlanTIS TurboCoil Book Former Sleeves.
What is a book forming sleeve? Imagine a very thick, plastic 3-ring binder, but without the ring holder mechanism and with a curved spine edge. It cradles your booklet and, with a couple gentle taps, will allow your pages to jog into the curved edge – making the binding edge concave. Now your binding holes are more aligned to the curve of the coil rungs passing through the holes – increasing productivity and reducing frustration. They are 100 percent reusable and are available separately or in a set of all 6 sizes. The color-coded sizes make for quick identification when dealing with different book thicknesses.
