Essentially, your trying to push a curved coil into a stack of pages with holes punched straight down. A common trick among experienced bindery operators is to form the book’s binding edge to more closely match the radius of larger coils. What is a book forming sleeve? Imagine a very thick, plastic 3-ring binder, but without the ring holder mechanism and with a curved spine edge. It cradles your booklet and, with a couple gentle taps, will allow your pages to jog into the curved edge – making the binding edge concave. Now your binding holes are more aligned to the curve of the coil rungs passing through the holes – increasing productivity and reducing frustration.
